Books for March
Apr. 3rd, 2008 05:31 pmHere are the books I read in March and what I thought of them.
Book 18 - Monkey's Raincoat by Robert Crais: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14404.The_Monkey_s_Raincoat
Type: Crime
What I Thought: This was the first book in the Elvis Cole series and it was a very enjoyable introuduction to the characters and what they do.
Score: 3 out of 4
Book 19 - The Elephants Of Norwich by Edward Marston: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2933419.The_Elephants_of_Norwich
Type: Histroical Crime
What I thought: This was book 11 in the Domesday Book series and even though I've only read the first book in the series this one was really easy to get into. It was also nice that it was set in a city I regulerly vist so I knew all of the places mentioned in the book.
Score: 3 1/2 out of 4
Book 20 - Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17231.Darkly_Dreaming_Dexter
Type: Crime
What I thought: Book 1 in the Dexter was a very interesting read. It's not very often we get a crime novel told from the point of view of a serial killer.
Score: 3 1/2 out of 4
Book 21 - The Queen's Man by Sharon Penman: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/234559.The_Queen_s_Man_A_Medieval_Mystery
Type: Histroical Crime
What I thought: This was an ok book but not one of the better histroical crime novels I've read.
score: 2 1/2 out of 4
Book 22 - Keys Of Hell by Jack Higgins: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/790350.The_Keys_of_Hell
Type: Thiller
What I thought: I really didn't like this book at all and it was really boring. I only finished it because it was so short.
Score: 1 1/2 out of 4
Book 23 - East Of Midnight by Tanith Lee: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1290247.East_of_Midnight
Type: Fantasy
What I thought: I didn't really enjoy this one much either though it did have one or two nice ideas.
Score: 2 out of 4
Book 24 - The Darkrning by Chandler McGrew: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1707945.The_Darkening
Type: Horror
What I thought: This was a really enjoyable book with a very Lovecraftian feel to it in the shape of the bad guys. The only thing I didn't like about it was the ending relationship for the main two characters as I found it to be a little creepy.
Score: 3 out of 4
Book 25 - Stardust by Neil Gaiman: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/818478.Stardust
Type: Fantasy
What I thought: This book was one of those rare cases where I actully enjoyed the film more then the book. I've come to the conclusion that while I like the stories that Neil Gaiman has to tell I really don't like his writing style as it makes it really hard to conect with any of the characters in the book.
Score: 2 1/2 out of 4
Book 26 - Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/136081.Dearly_Devoted_Dexter
Type: Crime
What I thought: Book 2 in the Dexter series sees Dexter with a series problem as ohne of the cops he works with starts to stalk him. This book was as enjoyable as the first one was.
Score: 3 1/2 out of 4
Book 27 - Dexter In The Dark by jeff Lindsay: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/206682.Dexter_in_the_Dark_A_Novel
Type: Crime
What I thought: I didn't really enjoy this one as much as the other two. In this one Dexter has a battle of wits with an evil force that may well be an anicent God.
Score: 2 1/2 out of 4
Book 28 - The Butcher Of St Peter's by Michael Jecks: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/116767.The_Butcher_of_St_Peter_s
Type: Histroical Crime
What I Thought: I really enjoyed this book, so much so that I finished it in a day. The plot was a little different from most of the books of it's type that I read which made it more interesting then most.
Score: 3 out of 4
Book 29 - Supernatural and Mysterious Japan by Catrien Ross: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/865783.Supernatural_and_Mysterious_Japan_Spirits_Hauntings_and_Paranormal_Phenomena
Type: Non-Fiction, Myths and Legends
What I thought: This was a really interesting book. The first half talked about the different types of mystics and religious groups that they have in Japan and about supernatural feats preformed by them. The second half dealt with the various myths and folklore about ghosts and sprits in Japan. I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot more then the first but the first half was still really interesting.
Score: 2 1/2 out of 4
