Stuff completed in May
Jun. 4th, 2009 09:39 amI finished a ton of anime this month but not that many books again though more then last month.
Films
Wolverine (si-fi, action) 3.5 - I know not alot of people liked this film but I thought it was excellent. It really got me excited about the Marvel universe whereas I haven't really been since just after the first X-Men film came out.
Silent Hill (horror) 4 - This was a rewatch as I just brought the film on blue-ray. It's an excellent movie and creepy as hell. I love how all the music is from the games and how you can spot some of the scens as well. Espically near the beginning of the film. Also Sean Bean is awesome.
Kung-Fu Panda (action, comedy, animation) 3.5 - Another excellent film. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but it was alot of fun. The animation was excellent and the amount of detail was brilliant.
Young Guns (western, based on true life) 3 - Another rewatch due to blue-ray purchase. Although I prefer the second movie this is still a fun film. It's been a while since I've seen it and I forgotten how young they all look in this movie. On a side note the picture quality of this blue-ray was excellent, every thing was very crisp and clear for such an old film.
Event Horizen (si-fi, horror) 3 - Yet another rewatch. Sadly some of the special effects suffer from being put on blue-ray espically at the begining when things are floating in space. You can really see that they are computer generated. On a plus not that doesn't last long and the rest of the film is still top notch with an excellent cast. watching the extas were highly amushing as was learning Jason Isaacs wanting to take his gutten boy cast home with him.
Police Acdamy 3 (comedy) 3 - Another rewatch. One of the better films in the series though the first one will always be the best. Good for a laugh.
Anime
Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae (supernatural) 8 - Not as good as the first two seasons but still pretty interesting espically once the actual plot kicked in.
Spice And Wolf OVA (fantasy, drama) 7 - Basically a short OVA to link the first and second seasons of the show together. Nothing much really happens but it was still fun to watch as it's the characters that make this show and their antics are always amushing.
Shikabane Hime Aka (supernatural, action) 9 - I didn't think I was going to like like this show when I decided to give it a try. After all it's about zombie girls that fight evil corpses with the aim of getting into heaven but as it turned out it was a really good show with likeable characters.
Maria + Holic (comedy, school-life) 7 - Girl transfers to all girls school as she gets hives when ever she touches guys only to find that one of the girls at the school is really a guy in disguise. The animation style of this anime was really werid as it was done by the same team that made both season of EF. It was a pretty funny show though I could have dome without all the nose bleeds.
Final Fantasy VII: On The Way To A Smile -Episode Denzel (fantasy, drama) 6 - A short OVA that came with the director's cut of Advent Children. Not horrible but not brilliant either. It told the tale of Denzel and how he met Cloud through a series of flashbacks.
Toradora (comedy, school-life, romance) 9 - An absolutly brilliant anime that had me in stiches one minite and tears the next. All the characters were loveable which is a plus point in this sort of show. I highly recommend this one.
Shikabane Hime Kuro (supernatural, action) 9 - The second season of Shikabane Hime was just as good as the first though it was more depressing as the truth about the orgination and some of the characters are revealed.
Honey And Clover Special Chapters (comedy, romance) 7 - Two short OVA's that show the stories of some of the side characters from the main show.
Freedom Previsted (si-fi, action) 5 - A really short OVA that introduces the characters from the much bigger OVA Freedom. The animation is beautful and all the character and tech designs are by the guy who did Akira. A nice set up for the main show.
Tower Of Druga: The Sword Of Uruk (fantasy, action) 5 - The secons season was much like the first though it wasn't as funny as the first season. This one gave a nice resalution to the plot which is never a bad thing.
Video Games
Resident Evil 5 (action, horror) - As much as I loved this game I really miss the way the old games were actully scary. Nowdays they are just action games with a horror theme rather then the survival horror games that I truly enjoyed. That said it was alot of fun and the AI of your team mate was spot on, they never got in the way at all which is never a bad thing in this type of game.
Books
28. Skeleton Key by Anthony Horowitz (childrens, action) 3 - The thrid book in the Alex Rider series. I feel these are getting a little silly now. So much happening to the same kid in a matter of months. It would work a lot better if more time went in between each story.
29. House Of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski (supernatural) 4 - This is a brilliant novel but it is so very werid and not for everyone thats for sure. Very very creepy in places even when you know it isn't really true.
30. Supernatural Origins by Peter Johnson (tv tie-in, supernatural) 2 - The story of how John become a hunter. It was a pretty bad comic in my opinion and art work was really bad.
31. The Supernatural Book Of Monsters, Spirits, Demons And Ghouls by Alex Irvine (tv tie-in, supernatural) 3 - A collection of the notes and insites into the monsters seen on the show some based on whats in the show as well as stuff from mythology. A pretty interesting book if you're interested in back stories of the creatres seen on the show.
32. Stormcaller by Tom Lloyd (fantasy) 3 - The first in a new series of books. A pretty intersting start with a ton of world building and character introduction the story really picks up the pace once the main plot starts anvancing once all the world building is done with. Defently worth a read if you like strongly built and beliveable fantasy worlds.
I think I rambled a little too much in there. :)
